About writing

"Writing isn't about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it's about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It's about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Getting happy." - Stephen King

I copy it from Kempton whom quoted it from the Wikiquote.

From the same list, here's two other quotes that I would like to remember and to share here:

"If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot."

"If you don't have the time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write."

- Stephen King

Have a nice weekend everybody !

I like quite a few of Stephen King's novels some of which are quite gritty (like eating cooked rice with sand) !! He can describe a scene in such great details that I almost feel I am inside the story. His success is to use your own fear and imagination to terrify yourself to death !!

Haricot: sorry for my late reply. Actually i myself did not read many books of Stephen King, but i believe he is one of the great talent in writing terrifying stories :)

Hi Michelle,

Glad you like the quote. Let me add my Stephen King story here

I've read one and only one book by Stephen King and it is not any one of his best selling horror books. It is Stephen's "On Writing", his autobiography and writing guide where I got the quote from.

I highly recommend the audio book because Stephen read his book himself and you can hear how good a story teller he is.

P.S. I will also recommend the audio books by Frank McCourt, Angela's Ashes (96), 'Tis (99), and Teacher Man (05) are all great books full of beautiful (and often sad, happy, and deeply insightful) stories told by Frank (who recently left us).

I've never read any Steven King but I do like that last quote in particular. Perhaps I will read more as a result - I hope so!

Phil: yes that's a good reminder for me too :)
