「假朋友」 / faux-amis

最近跟朋友談起港式廣東話的特色,今天在 readandeat 那里看到一個例子: '朱古力' (英 chocolate, 普通話叫 '巧克力') 。 又有一回在綱上讀到乳酪,看到圖片才知道指的是港人稱的'芝士' (英 cheese) ,那麼我以前認識的'乳酪'呢,指的却是半液體狀的酸奶 (英 yogurt),真是語言大混亂...

那麼英法語之間呢,則有很多字串相近,意思相距千里的詞彙,例如'照相機'的英文是 camera 法文是 appareil-photo,那麼 camera 在法文所指的則是攝像機 (英 video camera),哈。又如 location 在英語意'位置',但在法文則指'租賃'。這些字同而意差的例子,在法文叫 faux-amis (假朋友或偽友) 。

同樣地,聽說在加拿大的法文跟在法國的法文也略有不同。在 Ellen 的 My 3rd World 那里便看到這樣一個例子: 'mitaines' (手套) 在 Quebec 指的是連指的一種,在法國呢,指的却是無指的一種手套。 真考起來,對當地語言不熟悉的,隨時鬧出笑話來呢 :)

À Hongkong, il y a beaucoup de mots traduits phonétiquement de l'anglais. Exemple: bus, taxi, crème (cream), fromage (cheese), yaourt (yogurt), chocolat (chocolate), saumon (salmon) et canapé (sofa) etc... On les appellent en cantonais: ba-si (巴士) , dic-si (旳士) , gai-lime (忌廉) , zi-si (芝士), yu-loc (乳酪), zu-gou-laic (朱古力), san-man-yu (三文魚), et so-fa (梳化).

Alors quelqu'un qui parle Mandarin ne comprend donc pas 'zu-gou-laic' est un chocolat. On l'appelle plutôt un zhiao-ke-li (巧克力).

Une fois, j'ai lu yu-loc (乳酪) sur internet, jusqu'à j'ai vu les photos, je croyais parler du yaourt... :P En fait, en Mandarin, 'yu-loc' sont des fromages.

Si l'on peut dire, ce sont des faux-amis, comme camera en anglais vs camera en français, et mitaines à Québec vs mitaines en France :)

我比較注重食物名稱的不同,食譜,尤其是台灣西菜食譜就要特別小心了。

我常認為法語比英語豐富多了。當然,漢語最豐富。像妳怎樣翻譯 Femme Fatale, et Enfant terrible?英語 :Dangerous woman ?使人一頭霧水 而 Enfant terrible 可作為 Black Sheep of the family…. 但與人沒有一點關係。
漢語可譯 為:禍水紅顏, 與 浪蕩子 。非常切貼!Ce n'est pas?

其實也常聽到'法文與英文誰最豐富'的討論,我不多才,真不知誰最強。 在字典上查,femme fatale 在英也是 femme fatale, 而 enfant terrible 是 boisterous child , 'black sheep of the family' 指家中之劣子 (我在 http://petiteinote.blogspot.com/2007/05/mouton-sheep.html 也有提到)。

我想, 大概有些地方詞只能會意,故不能翻得好吧,正如'師奶' (http://petiteinote.blogspot.com/2007/10/si-na.html)。

對,禍水紅顏很切貼,哈我從來便喜歡浪蕩子這詞呀 :D 多指男的嗎? 但我想 enfant terrible 也可是小搗蛋,可男可女 ?

ah. and comédien means theater actor while comedian means actor who tells jokes or who does comedy.

gosh, I still have so much to learn...
